SOBER SCHOOL CONSOLIDATES METRO LOCATIONS
-September 7, 2010
A local sober school wants people to know it's still operating despite the closure of two of its locations.
Sobriety High School serves students overcoming chemical addiction in 9th through 12th grades. Its Arona Academy located in Coon Rapids will remain open along with its Burnsville location.
Funding challenges have forced the school to consolidate its campuses from four to two. But program managers say it won't change the way they serve students.
Director of Community Outreach Judi Hanson says, "It's small, it's nurturing and the students are really well known by the people that work here, they know them and it's a small population and they get a lot of attention and they feel like they're part of a family and that's really unique and the thing that keeps them coming back."
Sobriety High was established in 1989. It's now a state charter school. There's still room for students to sign up for this school year. For more information, call 763-398-4198.
