Sportsnight is... NEXT!

It's about Sports... Cardinal Sports. Hang on sports fans and enjoy the ride. You won't find anything like Sportsnight anywhere. We cram more complete highlights from more high school sporting events than anyone in just a half hour. Joe Yund & Howie Shapiro host the award winning program. They love all the comments from fans and viewers they meet at the sporting events. Let them know you watch.

Joe Yund

Joe grew up in Minneapolis and went to Southwest High School where he played hockey. After graduating from college in May of 1997, Joe moved back to the Twin Cities to pursue a career in sports broadcasting. In August of that year he was hired by the City of Coon Rapids to do play-by-play for Cardinals sports.

Joe really enjoys what he does for the City of Coon Rapids and says he is very thankful that the community has been so supportive of everything he does. He says although he gets a lot of the credit, most of it should go to his incredible technical staff. "It's a team effort, without them I couldn't do anything", he says. "But I'm happy that people like what we do and most of all I'm glad the kids are able to get this kind of exposure. Because when it's all said and done, it's all about the kids."

When asked about a most memorable moment at CTN Joe said he couldn't single one out. Some of the better moments include the seven overtime marathon hockey game against Champlin Park in 2000, the football team's win over Stillwater, also in 2000, the girl's soccer team's trip to the Metrodome, the baseball team's trips to Midway Stadium, and this year's overtime thriller against Osseo in the playoffs. "Really every chance I get to do Cardinal sports is special" Joe says, "it's so nice to have a job you're excited about and love to do."

Howie Shapiro

If you follow any of the Cardinal sports, you know this guy. He's a crowd favorite. When he's not
signing autographs, he's CTN Sports color commentator for most of the Coon Rapids Cardinal sports as well as co-host of Sportsnight.

Howie previously co-hosted another live cable television show called "Fantasy Football Forum" for Northwest Community Cable. That Experience propelled him to Commissioner of WCCO's Fantasy Football League. For three years during that time he was a frequent guest on Rosen's Sports Saturday. Additionally, he wrote an internet column for wcco.com during the football season.

According to Howie, he's had many wonderful experiences at CTN including the football team's victory over Stillwater on the road; the baseball team's quest to the state tournament; the boys and girls basketball team's road to the state tourney; and the girls soccer team's appearance in the state tournament, just to name a few.

The most rewarding experience Howie says is "the warmth that I have felt from the community. The students, faculty, parents, and my co-workers have always made me feel welcome and a large part of the family that is Cardinal athletics."

Howie has a wife Mimi and a daughter Lindsay. He's also a huge Vikings fan and apparently wins all of his Fantasy Football Leagues. Go figure.
