The City of Coon Rapids operates under a charter adopted in 1959 by the citizens.  The form of government established by the Charter is the Council/Manager plan.  Under this form of government the City Council is the legislative body of the city and determines all matters of policy.  They appoint a City Manager to administer the overall operations of the city.  

The City Council consists of a Mayor, a Council Member At Large and a Council Member from each of five wards. 

The City Council meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm in the council chambers at the City Center, 11155 Robinson Dr.
