Santa's Helpers
Toys For Joy and the Christmas Committee are two
non-profit agencies that partner each year to share Christmas
joy to families who need a little extra help. We recently
followed Santa's Helpers as they prepared to make the holidays
brighter for over 1700 families. Join us as we go behind
the scenes, to see how these two organizations spread holiday
cheer to those who need a helping hand.

Snowflake Days
It's a long standing tradition in Coon Rapids...Snowflake
Days! This year marks the 44th year of the celebration.
In this month's Closer Look segment we preview what's to come
for the 2008 Snowflake Days events, and take a look back down
memory lane.

as we tour Memorial Blood Centers here in Coon Rapids. We
walk through the blood donation process and learn more about the

Program:
This hockey program is
changing the lives of kids with special needs, allowing them to
participate in a sport that had previously been inaccessible.
A Little Boy's Story of
Survival:
The amazing story of 13 month old Carter Regnier,
whose life changed drastically when he was the victim of child abuse
one year ago.
Amy's Cardinals' Nest:
This club opened it's doors four years ago to become
a special place where the mentally and physically challenged can
come eat, dance, and socialize with others that are just like them.

2008:
People: The
Coon Rapids Community Scholarship Association
This spirited group
raises money for graduating seniors at Coon Rapids High School.
Their work has net big rewards in terms of thousands of dollars
in scholarship money for area kids. In this way they have
changed the lives of students and their families for over 40
years.
Closer
Look: Overindulgence
Many of us are guilty of giving a little too much to our
kids or allowing them to get away with things we really
shouldn't all in the name of love. Our guests Janine
Atwell and Kathy Solem put us on the straight and narrow as we
find out what it takes to keep our kids happy without
overindulging them.

People: Jenny Thorstad
This talented young woman
has taken on the task of making 'Addison's Disease' a household
word. Join us as we find out more about this disease, her senior
project, and the school that supports her.
Closer Look: Women in Wartime Exhibit
Throughout history,
women have played a role during wartime whether it was taking
care of things at home while soldier's went off overseas,
nursing the wounded, or even today, working on the front lines.
Join us as we go behind the scenes of a new exhibit on display
at the Anoka County History Center, and meet two women who have
unique stories to tell regarding their time in the military.

He's had a long teaching and
coaching career, and it was a Talk of the Town viewer that
suggested we get to know Jerry Coe.. In this month's
segment, we explore his coaching philosophy, check out the
Cardinals baseball team, and find out what Jerry likes to do
when he's not on the field.
Closer Look: Changing the World
At Northdale Middle
School, one teacher and her class bring new meaning to "Change
the World". They have literally changed the lives of
children in Naikarra, Kenya by helping to build a school.
We learn more about their work.
Lifestyle: Fighting Back Against Cancer
When you think of the
word cancer, most everyone knows at least one person who's
battled this disease. A group of volunteers is working
hard to make cancer a thing of the past, thanks to a massive
fund-raising effort coming up in June. In this month's

other medical conditions. Meet a Coon Rapids girl who has
a devotion to hair donation, and see how a local hair salon is
making it easy for customers to donate.

Hills Family Saturdays
When you think of
your golf game, you don't always think of bringing the kids
with, especially if they're young. But at Bunker Hills
Golf Course, the staff wants you to bring the whole family out
for a game of golf. It's all part of a new program called
Bunker Family Saturdays.

Liz Reiser
She's making history as the
first female president to ever lead the Coon Rapids Lions Club
organization. We get to know Liz, hear her goals for the
club and see how this local organization has helped so many over
the years.
Police Reserves
They're a group of men
and women who volunteer their time to be cops. We get to
know several members of the Coon Rapids Police Reserves to find
out why they volunteer their time. to keep the community safe.
Rockie Lynne
He's a local resident
who's climbing the ladder of success in the country music
industry. Stephanie sits down with Rockie Lynne to talk
about what it's like being on the road, the "glamour" of the
music business, and what's coming up next for this national
artist. We also have highlights from his recent concert at

Meals On
Wheels
This program helps
hundreds of seniors and those in need get a nutritious meal
each day. We follow some local Meals on Wheels volunteers
to learn more about the program and find out why so many

The DaVinci Academy
of Arts and Science
This brand new
charter school caters to students in the North Metro. We
take you inside DaVinci to learn more about the school, find out
how it got started, and talk to parents about why they chose to
have their students attend this new school, rather than a school
in the traditional public school setting. For more

Historic Schoolhouse
Makeover
In 2006, we brought
you the story of a historic schoolhouse that was saved from the
wrecking ball by a local business owner. The house was
moved to a piece of land in Coon Rapids and has undergone an
extensive makeover the past two yeras. In this month's
Closer Look segment, a tour of the renovated building and a
lesson in how old buildings can become new again.

It seems simple,
you hire a contractor because they know what they're
doing right? Well, not always! One Coon Rapids woman
found out the hard way that not all contractors are created
equal. She shares her story to help others avoid the
pitfalls she's experienced the last year.
The Element:
Coon Rapids
Teen Center
In its sixth year,
the Element teen center is going strong, keeping kids busy with
many activities. This free resource offers kids a
recreational place to hang out after school.
SAFE Parties
It's a tradition
that's been brewing at Coon Rapids High School for over 20
years. SAFE Parties are sponsored by the Football
Sideliners organization. The events are designed to give
kids a constructive place to hang out after football games and
keep them from hanging around the "wrong crowd".
