Water Quality Standards

Notice Requirement
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) is currently proposing amendments to the state water quality standards that will apply to all Minnesota waters. Minn. Stat. § 115.44, Subdivision 7 states that:
"For rules authorized under this section, the notices required to be mailed under Sections 14.14, Subdivision 1a, and 14.22 must also be mailed to the governing body of each municipality bordering or through which the waters for which standards are sought to be adopted flow."

Proposed Amendments

In order to provide the required notice, all municipalities in Minnesota are receiving this notice.  The amendments being proposed revise the existing turbidity standard to a standard of total suspended solids and add new standards to address the nutrient enrichment of rivers, streams, Mississippi River pools, and Lake Pepin. The Notice of Hearing and the proposed amendments are published in the November 18, 2013 State Register. Additional information about this decision can be found on the MPCA website
