Building Permits - Residential
When don't I need a permit?
A permit is not required for projects such as:
- replacing flooring (carpet, tile, vinyl, wood, etc.)
- painting interior or exterior surfaces
- replacing cabinets (not changing the layout)
- counter tops (a plumbing permit is required if countertop includes a sink)
- planting grass, flowers, shrubs, trees
- installing a mailbox (must meet post office regulations)
- installing gutters

How do I get a permit?
Some residential permits may be obtained through online ePermits. Scroll down this page for the permit application forms in PDF, then submit by email, in person at City Hall or through US Mail.
A city license is only required for sign contractors.
