Mother Baby Center Opens 'Milk Depot' at Mercy Hospital

New mothers now have a local option for donating excess breast milk.  The Mother Baby Center at Mercy Hospital is now an official milk depot.

Mercy Hospital began accepting donated breast milk from mothers one month ago.  As a milk depot, only women pre-screened through the milk bank can schedule a drop off in a milk safe storage bag.  From there, the donation is shipped to the milk bank to be pasteurized before returning to Mercy and other hospitals.

A freezer for storing the milk was purchased and donated by the Coon Rapids Women of Today.  Mothers interested in donating can call the milk bank at 763-546-8051.
